- Otherwise: the Thomas Crown affair (investigator with a Michael Kors wardrobe), Only Lovers Left Alive (vampire with an interest in natural history and literature), All About Eve (famous actress) or Robin Hood/Captain Marvel (self-explanatory)

DAY 6 - your favourite animated film: Princess Mononoke

DAY 7 - a film that you will never get tired of: Clue
- American Psycho, the Fifth Element, Stardust, Go

DAY 8 - a film where you liked the soundtrack more: I liked Bad Times at the El Royale pretty well, but the soundtrack was the best part.
- Wild Rose and, just recently, Wendy were not my cup of tea, but had good soundtracks

DAY 9 - a film you hate that everyone else liked: 2001 A Space Odyssey. This is the film with the highest average Letterboxd rating that I hate
DAY 10 - your favourite superhero film: Batman Begins
- I like Wonder Woman a lot, too

No - I don't know. I'm still trying to puzzle out High Life. Or the Lobster is a good ending to get you thinking
DAY 14 - a film that gave you depression: Son of Saul. Brilliant, but just soul-crushing.
DAY 15 - a film that makes you feel happy: The Scarlet Pimpernel
- Everybody wants some!!, Atomic Blonde, Princess Bride, Hunt for the Wilderpeople

DAY 16 - a film that is personal to you: Jane. Since I wanted to be her growing up and then I worked for JGI...

- Paddington 2, Aparajito, Batman Returns, Aliens, Return to Oz, Thor Ragnarok, MI: Fallout, 10 Cloverfield Lane, X2, Winter Soldier, Fantasia 2000, Rescuers Down Under, Prisoner of Azkaban

DAY 18 - a film that stars your favourite actor: The Cameraman
DAY 19 - a film made by your favourite director: Sherlock Jr

DAY 20 - a film that changed your life: Dead Poet's Society. Since I watched it when deciding which boarding school to attend.
- My first thought was actually Lola Rennt, which cemented me as a cinephile

Home for four years

DAY 21 - a film that you dozed in: My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I rarely fall asleep in films, but I wasn't very interested in this one (see: romcoms, above) and I was jetlagged.
DAY 22 - a film that made you angry: The first one I thought of was the Constant Gardener
- The Magdalene Sisters, Spotlight, Act of Killing, Weiner, Chasing Ice

DAY 23 - a film made by a director that is dead: All that Jazz
- The Great Escape

DAY 24 - a film you wish you saw in theatres: Silence of the Lambs
- Vertigo, The Third Man

DAY 25 - a film you like that is not set in the current era: Cabaret
- The Favourite, Carol, Phantom Thread, Lady Macbeth, First Cow

DAY 26 -  a film that you like that's adapted from somewhere: I think The Hours is one of the best adapted films around. It is distinct from the book, and both are masterpieces.
- Leave No Trace, Interview with a Vampire, Wild, Little Women, Never Let Me Go, Tinker Tailor

DAY 27 - a film that is visually striking to you: Sleepy Hollow. I feel like I need to go with Emmanuel Lubezki.
- The Fall, Days of Heaven, The New World, Thin Red Line...

DAY 28 - a film that made you feel uncomfortable: Thirteen. Ugh. Thank god we're only thirteen once.
DAY 29 -  a film that makes you want to fall in love: God's Own Country
- The Thin Man, Last of the Mohicans, Bright Star

DAY 30 - a film with your favourite ending: Likely a bit recency effect, but the ending is fucking perfect: Portrait of a Lady on Fire.

Quarantine Games 2

Next up:

Unlike the first song challenge (below), I'm not going to do an all-RENT edition. There are two more of these, which I may or may not get to (perhaps just so I can squeeze in Sweeney Todd and Little Shop of Horrors, which I didn't manage here. Or Mack the Knife.).

Day 1 - A song that you love to belt in your shower Cheating on Day 1, but: really any Linda Eder. Most often: Man of la Mancha/Bring on the Men/Impossible Dream are best. (Man of La Mancha & Jeckyll & Hyde respectively. Although I think Bring on the Men was cut from the original?)


Day 2 - A song with a color in the title: I'm Black/Ain't Got No - Hair (I think this one is the best version):


Day 3 - A song from a Disney musical: Disney shows aren't generally my thing, but I do like Aida: Elaborate Lives (reprise)

Day 4 - A song from a Tony-winning show you love: The Miller's Son - A Little Night Music (most versions are good, but I particularly like this one)

Day 5 - A song that boosts your confidence: Buenos Aires - Evita

Day 6 - A song that you've auditioned with: Maybe this time - Cabaret. I actually don't remember anything I ever used to audition. But I sang this one for theater class, so close enough.

Day 7 - A song that you love to sing at karaoke: Election of 1800. Hamiltunes counts as karaoke, right?

Day 8 - A song that reminds you of summer: Too Darn Hot - Kiss Me Kate. Is there another answer?

Day 9 - A song with a number in the title: One Song Glory - RENT (although One also works)

Day 10 - A song that makes you cry: Momma Look Sharp - 1776

Day 11 - A song that's an 11 o'clock number: Lot's Wife - Caroline or Change. Here, marvel (I do wonder if she had to have vocal surgery after this role):


Day 12 - A song from the year you were born: Well, La Cage is really the right answer here, but I don't know it well, so: I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major General - Pirates

Day 13 - A song from a show you think closed to soon: The Saddest Song - Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. Ah the perils of opening during the recession.

Day 14 - A song with a person's name in the title: Ballad of Guiteau - Assassins (or Marat/Sade)

Day 15 - A song you've performed for an audience: Turn Back O Man - Godspell

Day 16 - A song you'd want played at your wedding: I'm not that much of a theater nerd, but let's go with Getting Married Today - Company. ;) (Marry Me a Little would also work! Or here, have Aaron Tveit singing it when he had JUST RECOVERED FROM COVID)


Day 17 - A song with a dance break: Anything Goes. I love this dance so much. (Jonathan Groff did it too!)


Day 18 - A song that's about falling in love: What More Can I Say? - Falsettos


Day 19 - A song sung by two or more people: The Ballad of Sara Berry - 35mm: A Musical Exhibition

Day 20 - A song that reminds you of your childhood: Macavity - Cats. I was SO JEALOUS when my parents went to see this without me. I was about 4? I listened to the record a lot.

Day 21 - A song by an artist whose voice you love: Stars and the Moon - Songs for a New World

Day 22 - A song about a broken heart: Once in a While - Rocky Horror. Bet you weren't expecting that, were you?

Day 23 - A song from a musical that's never been on Broadway: Tell Me Where it Hurts - The Unfortunates. One of my all-time favorite musicals. I wish it got at least an off-broadway run. Of course, currently, the more appropriate song is Quarantine. (Not on youtube! But buy the album on iTunes or something - it's great.)

Day 24 - A song that you love to play on road trips: Notes/Prima Donna - Phantom. True story: on road trips to the Lair, my dad always played the Last of the Mohicans soundtrack and the London original cast recording of Phantom.

Day 25 - A song that relaxes you: I don't know what this means. I'm not sure I listen to any relaxing musical theater songs. But let's go with Midnight Radio - Hedwig. (Here, have Lena Hall doing it acoustic)

Day 26 - A song from a musical that's had a revival: All That Jazz - Chicago

Day 27 - A song from a jukebox musical: 1650 Broadway Medley - Beautiful. I'm generally not a fan of jukebox musicals, but this mashup is probably the cleverest use.

Day 28 - A song from a musical set in New York City: Could I Leave You? - Follies

Day 29 - A song from your dream role: Last of the American Girls/She's a Rebel - American Idiot (Whatsername gets all the best songs: Letterbomb, Boulevard, 21 guns)




Day 30 - A song that reminds you why you love broadway: Really, my first thought here was Another Op'nin' Another Show (here, have Christian Borle singing it. Actually, speaking of Christian Borle, A Musical from Something Rotten would fit this one as well), but since I've already used Kiss Me Kate, let's go with There's No Business like Show Business - Annie Get Your Gun
