First off: SO SAD about Albert Brooks. He had been getting more nominations than almost anyone else! I have high hopes he'll spring back.
The other big snub is obviously Michael Fassbender. I wonder if he split his own votes somehow?
Here's the movie rundown:
Actor: Demian Bichir, "A Better Life"; George Clooney, "The Descendants"; Leonardo DiCaprio, "J. Edgar"; Jean Dujardin, "The Artist"; Brad Pitt, "Moneyball."
Actress: Glenn Close, "Albert Nobbs"; Viola Davis, "The Help"; Meryl Streep, "The Iron Lady"; Tilda Swinton, "We Need to Talk About Kevin"; Michelle Williams, "My Week With Marilyn."
Supporting actor: Kenneth Branagh, "My Week With Marilyn"; Armie Hammer, "J. Edgar"; Jonah Hill, "Moneyball": Nick Nolte, "Warrior"; Christopher Plummer, "Beginners."
Supporting actress: Berenice Bejo, "The Artist"; Jessica Chastain, "The Help"; Melissa McCarthy, "Bridesmaids"; Janet McTeer, "Albert Nobbs"; Octavia Spencer, "The Help."
Demian Bichir is a surprise; Glenn Close less so, but I guess this keeps her oscar hopes alive. (I like Glenn Close, I really do. I just have not heard great things about Albert Nobbs. Sort of The Last Station of this year.) The other (somewhat) surprises: Berenice Bejo, Armie Hammer and Nick Nolte. They've all been nominated in other places, but haven't been among the more frequent nominees or winners thus far.
Personally, I'm sad for Ryan Gosling, although I think Drive and Ides of March splits it for him, and Rooney Mara, because I want her to be fantastic. And finally, no Gary Oldman? Really?
Here's the TV list:
Actor in a movie or miniseries: Laurence Fishburne, "Thurgood"; Paul Giamatti, "Too Big to Fail"; Greg Kinnear, "The Kennedys"; Guy Pearce, "Mildred Pierce"; James Woods, "Too Big to Fail."
Actress in a movie or miniseries: Diane Lane, "Cinema Verite"; Maggie Smith, "Downton Abbey"; Emily Watson, "Appropriate Adult"; Betty White, "Hallmark Hall of Fame: The Lost Valentine"; Kate Winslet, "Mildred Pierce."
Actor in a drama series: Patrick J. Adams, "Suits"; Steve Buscemi, "Boardwalk Empire"; Kyle Chandler, "Friday Night Lights"; Bryan Cranston, "Breaking Bad"; Michael C. Hall, "Dexter."
Actress in a drama series: Kathy Bates, "Harry's Law"; Glenn Close, "Damages"; Jessica Lange, "American Horror Story"; Julianna Margulies, "The Good Wife"; Kyra Sedgwick, "The Closer."
Actor in a comedy series: Alec Baldwin, "30 Rock"; Ty Burrell, "Modern Family"; Steve Carell, "The Office"; Jon Cryer, "Two and a Half Men"; Eric Stonestreet, "Modern Family."
Actress in a comedy series: Julie Bowen, "Modern Family"; Edie Falco, "Nurse Jackie"; Tina Fey, "30 Rock"; Sofia Vergara, "Modern Family"; Betty White, "Hot in Cleveland."
Cast in a drama series: "Boardwalk Empire," "Breaking Bad," "Dexter," "Game of Thrones," "The Good Wife."
Cast in a comedy series: "30 Rock," "The Big Bang Theory," "Glee," "Modern Family," "The Office."
Thoughts:
I really have to see Mildred Pierce already.
Why no supporting tv acting? At least the whole cast of Breaking Bad gets nominated. Too bad AHS didn't get nominated, too.
Patrick J. Adams for Suits has got to be the biggest surprise here.
Glee? Over Community or Parks and Rec or... really anything?
Jessica Lange: YES. I love this SO. MUCH. She eats all your scenery! She eats it up!
