2025 Mixes

Wooo

Past mixes: 2008200920102011201220132014201520162017201820192020202120222023, 2024

Disc 1
1. Everybody Scream - Florence + The Machine. One of the two songs of the year.

2. Hold - Garbage. New album! And it's so good.
3. Holy Visions - AFI. New album! Ditto and Davey's current 80s biker look cracks me up.
4. Too Much - Dove Cameron. Such an earworm.
7. FIGHT (ft. Jake Shears) - Boyfriend. Boyfriend released her final album - a concept musical depicting the Garden of Eden through Eve's eyes. It's great and there's a bunch of it on these and this one's my favorite.
11. Nightmares - CHVRCHES. I didn't listen to this one a lot when Screen Violence came out, but revisited it this year.
15. Masquerade - Stereophonic. I finally got to see Stereophonic and it was as incredible as everyone said (here's a video of the cast I saw at Berkeley Rep and here's a shorter clip of the original broadway cast).
16. The Scythe - The Last Dinner Party. Hey! Video - who knew. Beautiful.

Disc 2
7. dead - Madelline (I also like her training wheels, but I couldn't find a place for it on these)
8. What Was That - Lorde. I think the album got good reviews, but I haven't really gotten into the rest of it yet.
12. Rocky Road to Dublin - Sinners. Aw. No complete clip, but this is the closest:
(obviously the best version is the Dropkick Murphys)
14. Desperately Wanting - Better Than Ezra. Good is one of my all-time favorite songs, but I was never super into this one in '96. But I came back to it this year. I miss this era of alternative.
15. The Only Way Out - Bush. How did I come across this 11 years late? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
16. Drift Away - Orville Peck. Oh hey video
17. Sympathy Magic - Florence + The Machine

Disc 3
1. CREATION (ft. Big Freedia) - Boyfriend. Big Freedia as god is inspired.
2. Abracadabra - Lady Gaga

7. Dreams (sped up) - The Cranberries. Is it that different? Who cares.
9. DENIAL IS A RIVER - Doechii

Disc 4
3. Give Your Love - Tom Basden & Carey Mulligan. The Ballad of Wallis Island is so charming. (I don't want to put the clip of this song, because it's such an important moment in the movie that requires the build to land properly, but here's a music video that's just like a movie trailer.)
12. FWY - Garbage. OMG a Garbage b-side I missed?!?
14. Lilith - Saint Avangeline. This is clearly aping Lana, but since I love Lana....
15. Caritas Abundat - Hildegard von Blingin'. Hildegard posted this song of her namesake for hitting 1m subscribers and since I love Hildegard, and I love this singer's voice, here we are.
16. Hidden Lakes - Shearwater. New albums in 2026! New albums!
18. Berghain (ft. Björk, Yves Tumor) - Rosalía. From Florence's drama to the London symphony.
(her Brit awards performance is pretty great too.)
19. The Day That I Met God - Garbage. The other song of the year. It's so fucking good and it's incredible Garbage is putting out music like this exactly 30 years later.
